Highlight vs. Balayage

A traditional foiled highlight is placed from root down, which separates the other hair from each HL making them more defined, where as balayage, deriving from the the French meaning “to sweep”, is simply brushing the highlight on the hair, typically not starting directly at the root for a more natural, sun-kissed look. Balayage is less maintenance than a foil highlight because the highlights blend into your natural root color, which allows you to grow out your hair longer without any noticeable lines. It’s just a matter of which one is right for you. There are several variations, which enables each client’s own customization. My advice: switch it up!
